The boy took me to a lovely restaurant – Kilo – for my birthday dinner. It is located at Kampong Bugis (near Lavender MRT) and the restaurant is on the second floor of an industrial-looking building.
The small 35-seater (approximately) restaurant was dimly-lit and I didn’t have my camera with me so you’d have to put up with grainy pictures I took with my phone. The place isn’t air-conditioned but there was a nice breeze blowing, helped along by the various industrial fans placed around the restaurant. We had a lovely table for 2 overlooking Kallang River.
We shared all our food, including 2 starters, 2 mains and one dessert. Oh and one glass of Asahi beer 🙂
Presenting: The starters…
On to the mains…
And finally, the dessert…
In a nutshell, the food was AWESOME! I particularly loved the portobello mushroom and the insanely-unhealthy-but-oh-so-good crispy bits on the pork belly. The texture is similar to sio ba (roast pork) except that this was so crispy, I almost cracked my teeth biting into it. The balsamic duck leg was really flavourful too, with its meat falling off the bones easily. Coupled with the accompanying potato and asparagus (cooked to perfection), this was the star winner of the meal.
Rounding off our lovely meal was the chocolate lava cake. I have eaten many versions of this cake but this must be one of the best ones I’ve had. It did take a while to be served but no biggie. Good things come to those who wait 🙂
The chocolate wasn’t exceedingly sweet and the texture was perfect – hard on the outside and oozy within. The generous scoop of vanilla ice-cream accompanying the cake made it the perfect ending. The total bill came up to slightly over $100 which was very reasonable considering we left with very happy bellies. Burp.
Highly recommended for a catch-up dinner with friends or a lovely dinner for 2. Just remember to make a reservation!
