The Best Girl Friend’s speech

13
Just so you know, I’m not wearing a pink feather boa as part of my headgear. That’s actually stuck on the mirrior behind. Heh.

The One

S, we came of age together, saw each other through many phases in life, grappled with many mysteries. Who is ‘the one’? What is ‘the one’? Is ‘the one’ assigned to me or do I get to choose? Is there only one ‘the one’?

It took us quite a few years to come to the knowledge that there is no ‘the one’! We have to decide who or what ‘the one’ is. ‘The one’ is that worthy person whom we have chosen to commit ourselves to.

S, I know that J is the one for you, the kind of partner whom you have been looking for, even before you knew what you were looking for. Good choice, my friend!

J, your name Yosef, means God will add. Today, a wife has been added to you. Yesterday, you were one, a single man, a good and capable man. Today, by your offering of tea and by your vows, you have become one with another.

You are still one, but you are now a “new and improved formula”, a better one, a more complete one, a one that will be able to weather whatever challenges the rest of your years may throw at you. And I know that S will bring to this partnership the wisdom and fullness that her name promises.

May you always be lovers, may you be parents of good children, and grandparents of many grandchildren.
